The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking a dynamic, collaborative leader to be its Director of Engineering Services. UNC Charlotte is a fast growing Research University with a student population of over 29,000 and over 9 million square feet of facilities. The University is expected to grow to 35,000 students in the next decade. Located on 1000 suburban acres in the northern section of Charlotte, North Carolina, the campus has 105 buildings housing classrooms, faculty/staff offices, teaching and research laboratories, a variety of one-of-a-kind learning/exploration spaces, and student success facilities.
The Director of Engineering Services is responsible for leading the Engineering Services unit in providing professional engineering oversight for all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and utility systems on the campus. This includes:
Project development for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and utility systems (water, storm water, waste water, medium voltage electrical);
Mechanical, electrical, and water resource engineering support for capital projects (scope development, plan review, inspection, employee training);
Oversight of new building commissioning, retro-commissioning and existing building commissioning (EBC);
Establishing and maintaining engineering standards and guidelines for the campus systems;
Systems design and implementation for monitoring and control of energy and utilities:
Providing technical oversight for major air conditioning and heating systems served by chilled/hot water regional distribution;
Providing technical oversight for the campus building automation system;
Developing 5 year and 10 year plans for capital infrastructure improvements and renewal.
Supervising a team of professional engineers including the University Energy Manager, Electrical Engineer, and Water Resources Engineer
Minimum Qualifications: Four-year engineering degree in the area of assignment and five years of related engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional Engineer license in the State of North Carolina or ability to gain same by reciprocity.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering and five years of related engineering experience. Master's degree in mechanical engineering highly preferred. Ten years' experience in facilities or energy related professions. Licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors or ability to gain same by reciprocity. Certification as an energy manager by AEE (Association of Energy Engineers) or equivalent authority. Registered Professional Engineer with a minimum 10 years' experience in a major facilities operation unit. Expert level knowledge of engineering concepts, practices and/or theories. In-depth knowledge and experience with building automation systems, mechanical systems, wet and dry laboratory systems, lighting systems, and metering systems is essential.
