If you’re a licensed Professional Engineer with four or more years of experience and looking to advance your career, then OBEC is a good fit for you. Join our team in Medford to take on a key role in the center of our most active transportation project teams.
As licensed Professional Engineer with at least four years of experience, you’ll apply your understanding of roadway, stormwater, and hydraulics fundamentals to help project teams solve unique technical problems and perform their best. If you have a Master’s degree in civil or structural engineering, you can move into this position with three years of experience.
Your strong working knowledge of the AASHTO policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets needs to be paired with a high aptitude for working effectively with others. Every problem is unique, and you need to be able to recognize and incorporate the break-through constructive criticism or guidance can come from anyone on the team. Your Intermediate level of proficiency with roadway design programs such as Civil 3D, InRoads, or GeoPak and other related software will allow you to independently and accurately complete engineering calculations. Intermediate proficiency with AutoCAD or Microstation is required. Your technical abilities must be rounded out by strong communication and organization skills as well as an intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs (Outlook, Word, Excel).
We will push you to hone not only your engineering skills, but also your ability to perform as part of a dynamic team that works with several clients on numerous projects. Working alongside technical staff and other engineers, you will report directly to a more senior engineer. You will perform design tasks with little or no guidance, so you must exercise strong engineering judgment with broad guidance from senior staff. You’ll also quickly learn and apply technical mathematical concepts and engineering design skills, helping others learn them as well.
When you get to work each day, you’ll take on tasks related to roadway design, 3-dimensional modeling, quantity calculations, alternatives analysis, as well as independent design checks, construction support assignments, and drafting. You may even serve as engineer-of-record on smaller design projects. You will write technical specifications, reports, and other correspondence to a variety of audiences. Your understanding of design codes as well as project budgets and schedules will help you effectively collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams as well as with clients, contractors, suppliers, and teaming partners.
At OBEC, mentoring is a two-way street. You can rely on senior team members to be proactive mentors in helping you with your career goals and advising you on the work you do – giving you achievable assignments that push you to excel. Senior team members will rely on you to do impeccable, timely, and detailed work and to help think of ways to do things differently. Your flexibility to take on a range of assignments will mean that you’ll be comfortable with not only design and CAD software but also the range of critical project administration duties that includes attending meetings, writing correspondence, and compiling reports.
It takes a team to move a project from concept to final plans, specifications, and engineering estimates. In this role, you’ll take on increasingly complex parts of that process as you build the skills and experience you need to advance your career.
