The University of Mississippi’s National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) is seeking applicants for the position of R&D Engineer to provide engineering support the High-Speed Aeroacoustics Research Group (HSAG) and participate in data acquisition and analysis. We are looking for candidates with experience in design, development, and troubleshooting of measurement systems in the areas of fluid dynamics, aerospace, aeroacoustics, or propulsion systems. The applicant will be expected to provide engineering support for the development/maintenance of HSAG research facilities including but not limited to wind tunnel facilities, compressor systems, hydraulic systems and actuators, laser systems, optical fixtures, electric power systems, and real-time controls. The candidate will be responsible for designing or modifying test models in close collaboration with HSAG scientists to achieve research outcomes. The candidate will interpret and apply engineering standards to evaluate safety factors associated with testing of aeroacoustics models. The candidate will be expected to become the primary resource for operation of the Jet Noise Laboratory and Mach 5 Trisonic Wind Tunnel. As such, the candidate should have an applicable engineering background, be capable of CAD/CAM operations through the assembly stage for research projects, and have familiarity with aerospace ground testing systems.

For consideration as R&D Engineer I: A Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field and a minimum of two (2) years product research and evidence of participation in one’s professional society and/or participation on collaborative R&D activities.
