The County of San Diego is seeking a dynamic leader who creates public value, stewardship, engagement, awareness and authenticity for the position of Director, Department of Public Works (DPW).
The anticipated hiring range is $200,000 to $210,000 plus an excellent executive benefits package which may include a relocation allowance of up to $15,000 pending approval.

The ideal candidate will possess executive management level experience over a large public works department with varied functions; and possess a current registration as a Professional Engineer with the State of California.
San Diego County is one of the largest counties in the State of California. It has enough roadway just in the unincorporated areas to stretch from here to Pensacola, Florida. DPW ensures over 75 miles of guard rails are inspected and safe, that over 200 bridges are structurally sound, more than 400 miles of sewer lines are inspected and cleaned each year, and stormwater systems are ready to handle the winter rains.
Public Works processes more than 4,000 permits each year, everything from road closures for a neighborhood block party to moving oversize equipment on County roads. County airports handle over half a million flight operations annually, including the Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopters and emergency medical flights.

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or certified foreign studies equivalency AND five years of management level experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the classification. Experience must include at least one year of supervision.
Additional Salary Information: Salary placement for this position is dependent upon the qualifications ofthe successful candidate. Salary reviews are performance-based and goal-oriented. Relocation allowance up to $15,000 pending approval.
