Responsible for improving process parameters on PP-Extruder systems and compression mold presses in order to reduce scrap and improve part quality on the shop floor. Be lead project manager in testing new materials for existing or new products. Insure all molding systems operate effectively to support plan production. This includes maintaining, troubleshooting and improving these systems with an overall goal to improve quality, improve efficiencies and drive down costs.
Design plastics or injection-mold fabrication processes.
Create and improve injection/pinch/compression/extrusion and elastomer-mold machinery.
Research and develop new manufacturing processes.
Analyze manufacturing data and suggest improvements.
Analyze production and machinery line.
Ensure quality output of molded components.
Develop and design engineered plastic parts, insert molded parts and assemblies.
Interact with customers, suppliers, and internal resources.
Establish the parameters for an optimal molding environment.
Adjust process parameters in equipment, work with PLC’s and computer controlled equipment.
Minimize flash through equipment parameter adjustments/ heat adjustments.
Lead team in SMED activities.
Work with tooling engineers to maximize quality.
Analyze quality control and correct flaws.
Work with other team members and vendors.
Review existing validation reports.
Create new reports and verifications.
Analyze moldflow, part advisor analysis, finite element analysis, and stress/fatigue analysis on plastics.
Design hot/cold runner molds.
Develop 3D solid mold designs.
Create water diagrams and hot runner wiring schematics.
Prepare mold-filling simulations.
Bachelor’s degree, B.S. in Plastics Engineering preferred
3-5 years of hands compression / injection molding; minimum of 2 years manufacturing
process development, with a focus on plastics components development and qualification
Familiar with and capable of using Scientific Molding techniques to develop robust processes
Familiar with process validation via the IQ/OQ/PQ validation system
Understanding of, or willingness to learn, automotive requirements including PPAP, PFMEA,
Hands on / self-starter with motivation to advance
Scientific molding expertise / Understanding of RJG is a plus
Subassemblies understanding / clipping /welding / fusion / decoration equipment is a big plus
Familiar with automation associated with injection molding
Understanding of Quality/SPC systems and requirements
Ability to manage projects from inception to production
Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and others
Familiarity with secondary operations (welding, decorating, machining)
