The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Street and Highways Operations is currently hiring an Engineer. This individual will provide managerial oversight of the Public Works Operations Highways and Project Management bureaus consisting of two engineers and forty-three construction staff members. The Engineer IV will perform a variety of complex administrative and engineering support functions to the division manager which may include any combination of:
Development and management of operational budget and Bureau manuals, forms, training, and documents
Project and construction management for major municipal roadway, stormwater, and coastal construction
Manpower forecasting
Constructability reviews of project documents
Resolution of construction issues and conflicts
Management of various construction, construction engineering and inspection services, and municipal asset damage assessment contracts
Perform engineering related tasks such as construct ability assessment, construction change management, cost estimating, and project scope development

MINIMUMS: Requires a Bachelors Degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) approved engineering or engineering technology program with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license from the Virginia Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA) and seven (7) years of progressive professional experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
