Tacoma Power is seeking a Power Management Officer to lead its Power Management Section. This role is responsible for developing energy policy and responses to legislative and regulatory/market initiatives, negotiating and managing large wholesale and retail power contracts, creating and managing customer-facing energy programs including electrification, energy efficiency, conservation and other distributed energy resource programs to comply with state law, while supporting City and Board directives.
This role reports directly to the Tacoma Power General Manager and contributes as a key member of the Power utility’s executive leadership Team.
Responsibilities include:
Represent Tacoma Power with policy makers, regional stakeholders, outside agencies, and the public
Participate as a full and active member of Tacoma Power's senior leadership team and contribute to the overall strategy of the utility
Incorporate research and perform analysis of industry trends and long-range business challenges. Collect and facilitate stakeholder feedback to develop recommendations for strategic positioning of Tacoma Power
Oversee the acquisition of power resources to meet the future electric needs of customers by evaluating the technical and economic expected performance of all feasible options, soliciting proposals for purchase or construction of resources, negotiating contracts, testing recommendations with members of the executive team and the public, engaging a stakeholder process, and gaining Public Utility Board support
Oversee efforts to formulate energy policy positions for Tacoma Power and engage with legislators, other utilities, and interest groups to protect and enhance the long-term financial position of the utility
Qualifications
Minimum Education* Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Experience* 10 years of power utility experience including prior supervisory and managerial experience.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements AS ASSIGNED: North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection certification (NECC-CIP) AS ASSIGNED: Washington State Driver's License.
*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
